Who we are and what we do

NS is at the center of society. Every day we take more than 1 million travelers everywhere. We do this via one of the busiest rail networks in the world, with the most complete trip planner in the Netherlands and of course through our sharing bicycle system: the largest in the world! We need talent to ensure that our trains run on time, the trip planner works flawlessly, the sharing bicycles are shiny and the stations are clean. Lots of talent, including you as an IT young professional.

Working opportunities

You may be wondering what you could do as an IT trainee at NS. Well, surprisingly much! For example, before our passengers board the train, they first go through an (intuitive working) ticket machine. They then look at the digital signs or plan their route via the travel planner app. In the meantime, they check in with their mobile and use them on the train wifi. All these IT systems must be designed, built, tested and fine-tuned. Therefore we need ambitious IT trainees who want to participate in innovative projects like this with impact on millions of travelers.

NS has been doing well in recent years. The number of travelers has risen sharply and traveler satisfaction has remained stable. In the meantime, things are going so well that a phenomenon has arisen called the "HyperSpits". It is always busy during rush hour, but there is a specific moment when it is so busy that some people can no longer sit, or even cannot or will not get on the train! This time is between 7.30 a.m. and 8.30 p.m. In order to prevent people from being able to sit and/or reach their destination and to keep traveler satisfaction high, we ask our top IT team to find a modern solution so that our travelers are satisfied in the hyper rush!
